Chief of Police Thea Pirnat
Chief Pirnat, with a distinguished 23-year career at the Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD), has led the Leesburg Police Department since July 2023. Rising through the ranks at FCPD since 2000, she has held key positions from patrol officer to detective, supervisor, and various command roles including the Reston District Station, the Organized Crime and Intelligence Bureau, the Major Crimes Bureau, and the Resource Management Bureau. Her diverse contributions extend to commanding the FCPD's Language Skills Unit, co-chairing the Domestic Violence Fatality Review Team, and instructing at the Fairfax County Criminal Justice Academy.
Chief Pirnat is currently the Vice Chair on the Police Chiefs Committee for the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG) and is on the Board of Directors for the Northern Virginia Criminal Justice Academy. Chief Pirnat holds a master’s in public administration from George Mason University and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Texas in San Antonio. She is a graduate of the Police Executive Research Forum’s (PERF) Senior Management Institute for Police (SMIP), the Professional Executive Leadership School (PELS) through the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police (VACP), and the Leadership in Police Organizations (LPO) curriculum by the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP). Chief Pirnat is a member of the IACP, the VACP, the PERF, and the National Association of Women Law Enforcement Executives (NAWLEE).
