Board of Architectural Review Meeting & Work Session

The Board of Architectural Review (BAR) consists of 7 members appointed by the Town Council. The BAR’s primary responsibility is to review applications for Certificates of Appropriateness (COAs) for projects in the Old and Historic District, Gateway Corridor District and H-2 Corridor. The BAR reviews applications for projects ranging from small garages and sheds to residential additions or multi-building commercial developments. Members are appointed for their interest in the Town’s history and historic resources, and in many cases, because of relevant professional expertise. With backgrounds in architecture, real estate, historic preservation, construction, building conservation and the law, the BAR is better able to review and approve projects, advising Town Council on preservation issues.

Meetings

Unless otherwise noted, the BAR holds a work session, as needed, on the 1st Monday at 7pm in the Council Chamber and a regular business meeting on the 3rd Wednesday of every month at 7pm in the Council Chamber on the 2nd floor of Town Hall. All meetings are open to the public as provided for in the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, and business meetings may be viewed via Comcast Government Channel 67 and Verizon Channel 35. Please note, if there is a conflict with another meeting in the Council Chamber, business meetings are held in the lower level conference room at Town Hall.
