Tax Calendar

If the tax due date falls on a weekend or Town holiday, the due date is extended to next business day. 

Meals & Beverage Tax and Transient Occupancy Tax filings are due monthly by the 20th of the month following the month in which the taxes were collected.

Property Taxes

Leesburg property owners pay both Town of Leesburg and Loudoun County real estate and personal property taxes. The Loudoun County Treasurer bills and collects all property taxes for the Town of Leesburg. Property owners will receive a single bill with County and Town taxes listed separately and will make payment directly to Loudoun County.

Real Estate Taxes

Real estate assessments are made by the Loudoun County Commissioner of the Revenue

2018 & Prior Tax Years: The Town of Leesburg continues to collect delinquent real estate property taxes for 2018 and prior tax years.

Personal Property Taxes

All vehicles, including cars, trucks, motorcycles, RVs, campers and trailers, registered to a Town of Leesburg address are subject to personal property taxes and an annual license fee.  Personal property assessments are made by the Loudoun County Commissioner of the Revenue.

2019 & Prior Tax Years: The Town of Leesburg continues to collect delinquent personal property taxes for 2019 and prior tax years, including supplemental bills for 2019. 

Tax Relief & Tax Exemptions

Programs that provide tax relief and tax exemptions are available to qualified Town of Leesburg residents and organizations. These programs are offered through Loudoun County

 


Business Taxes

Business, Professional & Occupational Licenses (BPOL).

Most businesses, including home-based businesses are required to have a Town of Leesburg business license and to pay the annual license tax, which is based on gross receipts.

Consumer Taxes

Customers of Leesburg businesses pay the following consumer taxes:

  • Sales & Use Tax - 6% combined state & local (2.5% on food).
  • Meals & Beverage and Prepared Foods - 3.5%
  • Short-Term Rentals - 1%
  • Transient Occupancy - 6% local tax on the total room rate, plus 3% regional tax.
  • Utilities - 16% of the first $15 of net charge per month for electric, and gas service.
  • Cigarettes - 75 cents per pack. This tax is administered by the Northern Virginia Cigarette Tax Board.
