The Town of Leesburg, together with the Thomas Balch Library and the George C. Marshall International Center, will honor the 80th anniversary of D-Day (June 6, 1944) with a special event Sunday, June 2, at Dodona Manor (312 East Market Street, Leesburg).
The event will include a panel of World War II history experts who will discuss several topics: Rachel Thompson (Gen. George C. Marshall), Dr. Robert Holcomb (The Monuments Men Come to Leesburg), and Yvonne French (Prisoners of War in Loudoun County).
Attendees are encouraged to arrive between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to enjoy free tours of Dodona Manor, a National Historic Landmark and the home of General George C. Marshall. Also included in the event is interactive mapping about Leesburg during WWII, and a dedication of a model USS Marshall by the Capitol Chapter, Naval Submarine League. The speaker panel begins at 2 p.m.
In the event of inclement weather, the event will be held in the lower level meeting room of Thomas Balch Library (208 West Market Street, Leesburg).
