Residential Permit Parking Program
In situations where residential neighborhoods are experiencing difficulties with the availability of on-street parking because non-residents frequently occupy on-street parking spaces, the Town can create Residential Parking Zones that require cars to have a valid Residential Parking Permit in order to legally park on the street.
Existing Residential Parking Zones
The Town currently has fourteen Residential Parking Zones. For more information about the existing zones and how to option a Residential Parking Permit, please visit the Finance Department's Parking Permits page.
Requesting Creation of a New Residential Parking Zone
If you want to request that the Town create a new Residential Parking Zone, you need to submit a signed petition by a majority of the residents (51% or greater). Once the Town receives the petition, staff will conduct a survey of the requested area. A minimum of one block is required to qualify as a permit parking zone and the survey will be conducted on a block-by-block basis.
In order to qualify for designation as a Residential Parking Zone, the Town requires:
- At least 75% of the available parking on the block shall be occupied and;
- At least 25% of the available parking on the block shall be occupied by out-of-area vehicles (i.e., commuters, shoppers, students, etc.)
Sections 32-238 through 32-252 of the Leesburg Town Code cover Permit Parking Zones. For more information, contact the Niraja Chandrapu at 703-771-2791 or e-mail nchandrapu@leesburgva.gov
