Treesburg Initiative
Townwide initiative to plant thousands of new trees each year
Help Create a Crowd Sourced Tree Planting GIS Map
Want to help restore Leesburg's tree canopy and create Virginia's greenest community? Join your neighbors in the largest tree planting effort in Leesburg's history!
How does this work?
1.) Plant a tree
2.) Scan the QR code or click here: https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/38e2af0617c24f4d953936f329273811
3.) Tell us what you planted and upload a photo
That's it! Your newly planted tree will show up on the Town's GIS map along with countless trees from your neighbors. Each year on or around Arbor Day, snap a new photo, scan the QR code again and upload the latest picture of the tree.
Free trees for town residents and non-residents will be handed out each year by the Leesburg Tree Commission in booth #313 at the Flower and Garden Festival. Larger potted trees will also be handed out to Town residents only, on a first come first serve basis on Arbor day each year. You can enter these trees in the GIS map. You can also enter any other trees you plant in the GIS map.
Remember, planting a tree is not the end of the relationship. Studies have shown that a weekly watering for the first 2 growing seasons gives a new tree significantly greater chance of survival. So please water your new tree often.
