Gateway District
The Gateway District was established in 2020 to promote design principals to create an appealing transition into Leesburg's Historic Downtown. The Gateway District extends from the boundaries of the Old and Historic District along North and South King Street (Route 15), East and West Market Street (Route 7), and Edwards Ferry Road to the Town's corporate limits. The BAR jurisdiction of the Gateway covers exterior building alterations, new construction and site plans, lighting, demolition, building relocation, fences, walls and signs, and multi-family residential development. While the Gateway District does replace the H-2 Historic Corridor District in most instances, the H-2 Design Guidelines are still in use for properties throughout the Town that proffered to design their commercial developments to meet these standards.
Gateway District Design Guidelines
The Gateway District Design Guidelines and Gateway Streetscape Plan are intended to address the important design aspects that affect the appearance of Leesburg's entry corridors. The Town Plan sets goals for the Town to emphasize quality development that recognizes Leesburg's character. The Gateway District Guidelines implement the design goals of the Town Plan in the Gateway corridors by informing property owners, Town officials and developers how best to meet those design goals.
